About Live Screen & Voice Translate

This app translates the foreign language around you, inside your phone and out in the world. It listens to the video or app audio playing on your iPhone and shows the translation as subtitles in a small floating window; it reads the text on screen and keeps the translation flowing while you play or scroll; you can point the camera at a sign or a menu and read the translation over the original line; you can sit face to face and speak two languages; and you can pick a screenshot and see the translation laid over the original text, in exactly the same place. With the standard engine everything runs on your iPhone using Apple's on-device Vision, Speech and Translation frameworks — no image, no text and no audio is ever sent to the developer's servers, and nothing is recorded. Each feature can be opened straight from a shortcut such as a double back tap. Open a video or a live stream in the app's built-in browser and translated subtitles appear as people speak. Translates into 60 languages, including Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean.

Frequently asked questions

What does Miruyaku do?

Miruyaku is an iPhone translation app for the foreign language around you, on screen and off. It adds translated subtitles to videos and live streams, turns the audio of whatever is playing into subtitles, keeps translating on-screen text in games and comics in a floating window, translates signs and menus through the camera, translates face-to-face conversations, and lays the translation over the text in a screenshot. All in one app.

Can it translate a video or a live stream that has no subtitles?

Yes, in two ways. (1) Subtitles on video: open a video or live stream in the app's built-in browser and translated subtitles appear over the video as people speak. You can show the translation, the original, or both. (2) Live Translation: the app listens to the audio of a video playing in another app and shows the translation in a floating Picture in Picture window. Both need iOS 26 or later. For copy-protected videos that (1) cannot subtitle, use (2).

Can it translate a live stream in real time? How much delay is there?

Yes. Open the live stream in the app's built-in browser and translated subtitles appear as people speak. The player loads a few seconds of audio ahead of what you hear, and the app transcribes and translates that audio on the device in advance, so the subtitles are ready when the words are spoken. Speech recognition and translation both run on the iPhone, so there is no round trip to a server. Speed varies by iPhone model and language. For streams where this is not possible, such as copy-protected ones, Live Translation (which listens to the audio as it plays) still works.

Is it really free? Are there limits on usage?

Yes, it is free. Every translation feature is available, with no limit on the number of translations, the length of a video or the number of characters. No account or sign-in is needed. Running costs are covered by ads.

How often do ads appear?

A banner is shown at the bottom of the screen. Full-screen ads appear only when you return to the home screen after finishing a translation: after every 2 translations, at least 3 minutes after the previous ad, and at most 10 a day. They never appear during a translation, while you watch a video, or right after launch (as of version 1.8.0).

What changes if I subscribe?

The optional Ad-Free subscription (monthly; USD 1.99 in the US, JPY 300 in Japan) only removes the banner and full-screen ads. The features are exactly the same with or without it, and nothing is locked behind payment. You can cancel at any time (version 1.8.0 or later).

Can it translate games, manga and webtoons on screen?

Yes. The screen mode of Live Translation reads the text on your screen while you use another app and keeps showing the translation in a small floating window. For screenshots, it lays the translation over the original text, for example inside speech bubbles.

Can it translate text inside a video, such as slides?

Yes. In Subtitles on video, text that appears in the picture can be translated in place, separately from the audio subtitles. It works best for text that stays still, such as lecture slides.

Does it work offline? Is anything sent to a server?

Standard translation runs entirely on your iPhone. Screen contents, photos and audio are never sent to the developer (the developer has no servers). With the language data installed it works without a connection. Only if you register your own API key and choose an external translation service is the text sent directly to that service.

Which languages does it support?

It translates into 60 languages, including Japanese, English, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Korean, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Thai, Vietnamese and Arabic. The app itself is available in 19 languages, and more can be downloaded.

Which iPhones are supported?

iPhone with iOS 18 or later. Subtitles on video, Live Translation of video audio and Conversation need iOS 26 or later.
