1. Approach
The App is designed to keep your data on your device wherever possible. This policy sets out what information the App handles, why, and what is shared with third parties.
2. Data stored on your device
The App stores the following only on your device. None of it is sent to the developer's servers.
- Translation history (source image, recognised text, translation, language pair, timestamp) — in on-device SwiftData only, never sent anywhere. You choose how many entries to keep; past that limit the oldest are deleted automatically
- Your source- and target-language selections, and the App's display-language setting
- Your choice of translation engine (standard on-device / DeepL / Google Translate / Anthropic Claude / OpenAI / Google Gemini)
- Any API keys you enter — held in the iOS Keychain on this device only (not synced to iCloud, readable only while the device is unlocked). They are never written to UserDefaults in plain text
- Colour theme and accent colour
- Live Translate subtitle settings (text size, background opacity, number of lines) and the audio source setting (this device's audio / microphone)
- Frames captured from the screen while Live Translate is running (at most three, kept in the App's own App Group container and overwritten as new frames arrive; never sent anywhere)
- Images received from the share sheet (kept temporarily in the App's own App Group container and overwritten by the next shared image)
- A date key used to limit the full-screen ad to once per day
- A flag recording that you have completed onboarding, and whether the App has asked you for a review (the date and your answer to whether it is useful)
- Favorites and subtitle settings (display, size, position, languages) of the in-app browser, and site data such as cookies stored by the sites you open in it (kept on the device only; never sent to the developer)
- The status of the Ad-Free purchase (only the result of checking, on the device, the purchase information managed by Apple; never sent to the developer's servers), ad display counts, and whether the Ad-Free notice has been shown
3. Data sent to third parties
The App uses the third-party services below, which may receive the information described.
Google AdMob (advertising)
The App uses Google AdMob to show ads. AdMob may collect the following to serve ads and measure their performance.
- Advertising identifier (IDFA) — only with your permission
- Device identifier (IDFV)
- Device information (model, OS version)
- Approximate location (inferred from IP address)
You can choose whether to allow tracking under Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking on your iPhone. Non-personalized ads are shown either way.
Ads are served through Google AdMob. The App may ask your permission to track (Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt). Only if you allow it does the App use the advertising identifier (IDFA) to show ads tailored to your interests. If you decline — or if consent is not given in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland — ads are requested with npa=1 and are non-personalized only. Every feature of the App works the same whether you allow tracking or not. You can withdraw permission at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. The AdMob SDK may collect a device identifier (IDFV), information about ad impressions, and crash and performance diagnostics. Images, text and audio you translate are never used for advertising.
Google AdMob's privacy policy is available at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
Apple App Store / StoreKit (purchases)
In-app purchases are handled by Apple's StoreKit. Payment details are held by Apple, not the developer; the developer receives only the purchase state (purchased or not).
Services you choose to connect
As long as you use the default standard (on-device) engine, no image, no text and no audio is sent anywhere. Recognition and translation run on your iPhone via Apple's Vision, Speech and Translation frameworks. The camera feed, the audio playing on your device and anything picked up by the microphone are processed only to produce the translation — nothing is recorded or stored.
Only if you enter your own API key in Settings and select DeepL, Google Translate, Anthropic Claude, OpenAI or Google Gemini is the recognised text sent from your device directly to that provider's API (api.deepl.com or api-free.deepl.com / translation.googleapis.com / api.anthropic.com / api.openai.com / generativelanguage.googleapis.com). It does not pass through the developer's servers and the developer never receives it. What the provider does with that text is governed by their privacy policy and your agreement with them.
The connection test performed when you save a key also sends a short piece of test text to the provider you selected. Switching the engine back to standard, or deleting the key in Settings, stops any further external transmission.
Pages and videos you open in the in-app browser are loaded directly from those sites to your device, as in any browser. The audio and picture of the video being played are only listened to, read and translated on the device to make subtitles; they are never sent to the developer's servers and are not recorded or stored. The developer does not learn which sites you open. Saving a video with subtitles applies only to videos you have saved on your device, and only when you choose to save (it uses the add-to-Photos permission)
Purchase, renewal and cancellation of Ad-Free are handled by Apple's App Store, and payment information is handled by Apple. The developer never receives card numbers or similar details
4. Personally identifiable information
The App does not collect your name, email address, phone number, bank details or card details. If you choose to include information in an email to support, it is used solely to reply to you.
5. Deleting your data
You can remove the data the App holds in the following ways.
- Delete the App from your iPhone — everything stored on the device goes with it
6. Children
The App is rated 4 and older, and collects no age-related personal information. Children should use the App under the supervision of a parent or guardian.
7. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated without notice to reflect changes in law or in the App. Significant changes will be announced in the App or on the support page.
8. Contact
For questions about this policy or requests to delete data, please contact the developer.
