1. Approach
The App is designed to keep your data on your device wherever possible. This policy sets out what information the App handles, why, and what is shared with third parties.
2. Data stored on your device
The App stores the following only on your device. None of it is sent to the developer's servers.
- Text and titles extracted from what you import — stored inside the app and removed when you delete it from the library
- Reading positions, bookmarks and notes, folders (including which are private), the pronunciation dictionary and quick phrases
- VOICEVOX voice data and reading dictionary — can be deleted in Settings > VOICEVOX Voices
- History of what you said with Speak for Me — can be cleared in Settings
- Settings (voice, speed, display) and the counts and dates used to decide when to ask for a rating
- Exported audio files — only the ones you share or save yourself remain
3. Data sent to third parties
The App uses the third-party services below, which may receive the information described.
Google AdMob (advertising)
The App uses Google AdMob to show ads. AdMob may collect the following to serve ads and measure their performance.
- Device identifier (IDFV)
- Device information (model, OS version)
- Approximate location (inferred from IP address)
The App does not present the App Tracking Transparency prompt and does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA). Ads are always requested as non-personalized, so no behavioural targeting is performed across other apps or websites.
Ads are shown only as Google AdMob non-personalized ads (NPA): a small banner at the bottom of the screen and a slot while importing or exporting. The app does not request App Tracking Transparency permission and does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA). The AdMob SDK may collect the device identifier (IDFV), ad display information and diagnostics, which are not linked to you and are not used for tracking. Your documents and the text read aloud are never used for advertising.
Google AdMob's privacy policy is available at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
Services you choose to connect
Speech is generated on the device by Apple's speech synthesis (AVSpeechSynthesizer). Text is never sent to the developer's or Apple's servers.
Text in photos, scans and PDFs is recognized on the device by Apple's Vision framework.
VOICEVOX voices are generated on the device with VOICEVOX CORE. Your text is never sent anywhere. The voice data (about 56–73 MB per character) and the reading dictionary (about 24 MB) are downloaded from the official VOICEVOX and Open JTalk releases on GitHub, only when you tap "Add".
Face ID and passcode checks for private folders are done by iOS. The app never receives any face data.
Translation is done on the device by Apple's Translation framework. Language data is downloaded from Apple once for each new language pair. Summaries and simpler rewording use Apple Intelligence's on-device model.
Languages that Apple's translation does not cover are translated with Google's on-device translation (ML Kit), only when you add them with "Add another language". About 30 MB of language data is downloaded from Google for each language. The text being translated never leaves the device, but ML Kit sends usage and performance metrics (diagnostics) to Google. You can delete downloaded language data in Settings > "Translation data on this device".
When you import a web article, the app fetches the page at the URL you entered or shared (including its illustrations). Classic books are fetched from Project Gutenberg (gutenberg.org), Aozora Bunko (aozora.gr.jp) and Wikisource, only the book you choose. Novel and book sites in "Find Books" and addresses you type are shown in the in-app browser. For web serials, the table of contents and new chapters are fetched one at a time when you tap "Check for Updates" (never automatically in the background). Apart from that, the only network traffic is for ads, the Google language data and metrics, and VOICEVOX voice downloads described above.
Documents are chosen with the iOS file and photo pickers, and scanned with the iOS document scanner. The app only receives what you pick or scan.
4. Personally identifiable information
The App does not collect your name, email address, phone number, bank details or card details. If you choose to include information in an email to support, it is used solely to reply to you.
5. Deleting your data
You can remove the data the App holds in the following ways.
- Delete the App from your iPhone — everything stored on the device goes with it
6. Children
The App is rated 4+ and older, and collects no age-related personal information. Children should use the App under the supervision of a parent or guardian.
7. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated without notice to reflect changes in law or in the App. Significant changes will be announced in the App or on the support page.
8. Contact
For questions about this policy or requests to delete data, please contact the developer.
