About Kikiyomi
Kikiyomi is an iOS app that reads text aloud. Import pasted text, web articles, PDFs, EPUB and Word files, or photos of book pages and handouts, and listen in the voices built into your iPhone. The current sentence is highlighted and the page scrolls automatically. Speed goes from 0.75× to 4×, with a sleep timer, repeat, bookmarks, a pronunciation dictionary, skipping of URLs and footnotes, and export to an audio file. Speak for Me turns typed text into speech when you can't speak. Text and audio are processed entirely on the device, and your documents are never uploaded.
Features
- Reads anything — Pasted text, articles shared from Safari, PDFs (including scanned PDFs), EPUB without DRM, Word, text files and photos of books and handouts. Classic books from Project Gutenberg and Aozora Bunko too. Illustrations in web pages, EPUB and classic books are kept and shown. Not just the text: illustrations come in too, and stories posted as images are imported as images
- Photos read in the right order — Headings, paragraphs, tables and lists in photographed pages are recognized and read in order, including two-column layouts
- Easy to follow — The current sentence is highlighted and the current word underlined. Tap a paragraph to read from there. Speed from 0.75× to 4×. PDF page numbers, headers and footers are removed automatically
- Dialogue in its own voice — Lines of dialogue in 「」, “ ”, « », dashes and more are read in a different voice or pitch from the narration. Choose and combine the rules for how dialogue is written in any country
- Japanese character voices (VOICEVOX) — Japanese text can also be read in VOICEVOX character voices (38 characters) and 9 VOICEVOX Nemo voices. Each voice is downloaded once and generated on your iPhone, so it works offline. The reader shows the credit "VOICEVOX:(character name)"
- Listen on the go — Keeps reading with the screen off or in other apps. Sleep timer, repeat, a pause after each sentence, listening along with music, and export to an audio file (m4a)
- Translate and summarize — Translate on the device before listening, or hear the original and the translation in turn. On devices with Apple Intelligence, listen to a summary or a simpler version
- Speak for Me — Turns typed text into speech, with quick phrases, history, a large display, sending your voice into phone calls and Personal Voice
- An organised, private library — Books from the web and Aozora Bunko go into a folder named after the site, and books with illustrations show the first one as their cover. Keep books you'd rather others didn't see in a private folder: it opens with Face ID or your passcode, and its books never appear in other lists, on the Lock Screen or in widgets. Book Info shows each book's web address and size
