About RollDiet
RollDiet is an iOS app for clearing out an iPhone full of photos. It automatically groups burst shots, similar photos, blurry photos, photos taken with a dirty lens, screenshots, and large videos, and you simply swipe each one left or right to choose which to delete. For bursts and duplicates, it suggests "one to keep" for each group, so you can clean them up all at once. In groups containing people, it picks the one to keep based on how well the faces are captured. There's also a "reduce without deleting" approach: it separately surfaces things like the video part of Live Photos, screen recordings, and RAW files, which let you free up space without losing a single photo. Screenshots of documents, receipts, and QR codes are never suggested for deletion, even if they're blurry. All analysis and decisions happen entirely on your device, and not a single photo ever leaves it. There are no limits on the number of photos or uses, and every feature is free.

Features
- Simply sort left or right. — View one photo at a time in a large size — swipe left to mark it for deletion, swipe right to keep it. If you swipe the wrong way, tap "Undo" to go back to the previous photo. No ads are shown while you're sorting.
- Clear out burst shots in bulk — Photos taken in the same burst are grouped together, with your device's top pick presented as the suggested "keeper." Tap "Mark all but ★ as candidates" to clear out a 30-shot burst in a single tap.
- Choose people photos based on how the face looks — When similar photos include people, we pick the one to keep by checking how well the faces are captured. A photo with closed eyes is never kept just because it has a higher resolution.
- Explain why it's a bad photo — Blurry photos that may have been caused by a dirty lens are separated into their own category. Once you know the cause, it's easier to decide whether to delete the photo, and you can avoid the same mistake in future shots.
- Reduce without deleting — Displays the video portion of Live Photos, screen recordings, RAW files, and items not yet uploaded to iCloud as separate categories. Converting Live Photos to still images frees up space without losing a single photo. Before any action is taken, the app always explains on screen what will happen.
- Sort screenshots by content — Automatically classifies your screenshots into receipts, maps, conversations, codes (QR and barcodes), and others. Receipts and codes are excluded from deletion suggestions by default, since you're likely to need them later.
- Protect your documents and receipts — Photos of receipts, documents, and membership cards weren't taken to be beautiful. Blurriness alone doesn't count as low quality, so these are excluded from deletion candidates. You can also add them back to the candidates yourself.
- See how much space you'll free up before deleting. — The confirmation screen for deletion shows exactly how much storage will be freed up. Deletion goes through iOS's standard confirmation dialog, and it's clearly noted that items can be restored from "Recently Deleted" within 30 days.
- Start using it right away, no matter how many tens of thousands of photos you have. — We count the ones we can identify from metadata alone first, so even with 30,000 photos you'll see the first results within seconds. The slower analysis catches up in the background, and if it's interrupted, it picks up right where it left off next time you open the app.
- 100% on-device, no restrictions, free of charge — All analysis and detection are performed entirely on your device, and no photos ever leave it. There are no limits on the number of photos or uses, and all features are free to use.

Frequently asked questions
What does RollDiet do?
RollDiet clears out a full photo library on an iPhone or iPad. It groups burst shots, near-duplicate photos, blurry photos, photos taken through a dirty lens, screenshots and large videos. You look at one photo at a time and swipe left to mark it for deletion or right to keep it. For bursts and duplicates it suggests one photo to keep in each group so you can clear the rest in one tap.
Is it really free? Is there a subscription or a limit on photos?
It is free. Every feature is available, there is no limit on the number of photos or how often you use it, and there are no in-app purchases or subscriptions. Running costs are covered by ads.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. All analysis and decisions run on the device with Apple's Photos and Vision frameworks. Photos, videos, thumbnails and text read from screenshots are never sent to the developer or to any third party.
Can I get a photo back after deleting it?
Yes. The app never deletes on its own: deletion goes through the standard iOS confirmation dialog, and deleted items move to Recently Deleted in the Photos app, where they can be restored for 30 days.
How does it choose which duplicate to keep?
For each group of similar photos it suggests one keeper. When the photos include people, it looks at how well the faces are captured, so a photo with closed eyes is not kept just because it has a higher resolution. You can always change the choice.
Can I free up space without deleting photos?
Yes. The app lists things that can be made smaller without losing a photo: the video part of Live Photos, large videos that can be re-encoded to a smaller size or trimmed to the part you need, and very large photos that can be shrunk. Before each action it explains on screen what will happen.
Does it work with tens of thousands of photos?
Yes. It first counts what it can tell from metadata alone, so the first results appear within seconds even with 30,000 photos. The slower analysis continues in the background and resumes where it stopped the next time you open the app.
Which devices are supported?
iPhone and iPad with iOS 17.0 or later. Lens smudge detection and classifying screenshots by content need iOS 26 or later.
Why is the name different on my App Store?
The app is listed as RollDiet in English, カタヅケ (Katazuke) in Japan, and under a local name in some other countries. The App Store link on this page opens the same app in every country.
